Lower values can still be usable in context. A poster viewed from farther away may work at 150 DPI, while images used only on websites or screens usually sit around 72 to 96 DPI. The right answer depends on both the image file and the intended print size.

Why iPhone photos show 72 DPI
Many iPhone photos are tagged with 72 DPI metadata by default. That does not mean the photo is low quality. It simply means the file carries web-style print metadata, even when the pixel dimensions are large enough for excellent print output.
For example, a 4032 × 3024 px image can still print at 13.4 × 10.1 inches at 300 DPI. The metadata and the available pixels tell different parts of the story, which is why this checker shows both the current DPI tag and the practical print size.
